Performing Arts

The ability to communicate through the performing arts is an important part of developing the whole student. In the preschool and elementary grades, students practice and perform an annual Christmas program as well as smaller classroom productions. Elementary students participate in the ACSI Speech Meet each year, requiring all students to polish their skills in the areas of memorization, clearly speaking in public, and engaging an audience through meaningful expression. In addition, elementary students may choose to participate in a drama production through the afterschool EdVenture Electives. Recent productions have included “Willy Wonka Kids” and “God’s Top Ten”.

Junior high students participate in the ACSI Speech Meet and have the opportunity to be a part of the annual drama production. Students may participate in an onstage role, or be involved in the stage crew, backstage management, or technical crew. Recent junior high drama productions have included “Beauty and the Beast”, and "Henry and Ramona".

The Big Valley High School drama department has a longstanding reputation of excellence in their productions. The drama department allows students to express themselves through two productions each year, whether participating on stage, serving backstage or with the technical crew. Working on a major production allows students to exercise leadership skills and to have multiple opportunities for discipleship and personal growth. Recent productions from the high school drama department include “Little Women”, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, “Oklahoma”, “Hello, Dolly”, “Alice in Wonderland” and "Music Man".
